BLU has brought a real fighter to the budget smartphone world. The BLU VIVO XL4 has some amazing features when compared to the other budget smartphones with a dual sim and high-quality front and back cameras both carrying 13MP. Other features include a high-quality 720p display and smooth user-interface, but is this all enough? The question remains, can you really get a good smartphone on a budget and is the BLU VIVO XL4 worth its cost? This is something we hope we can answer in today’s review.
Always buy from trusted sellers with verified reviews and trusted companies.
BLU VIVO XL4 follows the modern smartphone design with a notch on the top and rounded corners. Don’t worry the notch can be hidden from the top menu if you don’t like it. The bezel is super thin giving the phone screen an amazing 80% screen to body ratio. There isn’t really anything that really separates it from the more expensive flagship smartphones when you look at it quickly. The casing is made from aluminic metal and the screen is bright. Overall the phone feels good and fits the hand nicely with its 6.19 x 0.3 x 3 inc dimensions. It also weighs only 0.5 lb so your hand should get too tired even if you end up holding it up for a long time.
On the right, you got the power on and off button and on to of that you got the volume controls. The left side of the phone has the SIM and SD card inputs and on the bottom, you got a mini USB connector. The Mini USB is a kind of a let down considering most smartphones pack a USB-C these days.
Back of the phone, you can find the fingerprint scanner. It works without any hiccups and BLU also says that the fingerprint will be encrypted inside the phone so it can’t be hacked, which is a nice feature, though we were not able to know how well it is encrypted. Something we wish would have been taken into consideration when choosing the backside material is fingerprints. Seems that the backside eats those things since it doesn’t matter how clean our fingers and hands are they always seem to leave some kind of prints on the back.
The VIVO XL4 comes in two different colors. The first and our favorite one is the black one, though you can get it also in gold. Thankfully though, you get two silicone cases in the package where one is clear to showcase the natural colors of the phone while the other one is a printed silicone case if you want more “edgy” look for your BLU VIVO XL4.
A small nice touch from the BLU team was to add Tempered Glass Protector inside the box so you can install that when the plastic one gets used or if you want to get better protection instantly.
BLU VIVO XL4 display – The display comes in a 6.2-inch HD+ 19:9 design with curved glass. On paper, you get a 720 x 1520 pixel high definition display which might be a bit low for some, but thankfully a lot is saved with the bright colors and well placed LED lights that give the phone over 440 nits lumen brightness making the display very bright.
BLU really hasn’t cheaped out on the battery thankfully and it shows. The VIVO XL4 is packed with 4000 mAh battery that should last around 17 hours of web browsing or 83 hours of listening to music. In our use, we got around 14 hours of use time with web browsing and light music listening which is a good result and should last for a whole day.
They have also equipped the phone with a 5V/2A Quick charge letting you fully charge the device in less than 2.5 hours. A nice little touch that most of us who live a busy life can appreciate.
BLU VIVO XL4 camera – On the front, you can find the 13 MP camera with a flash. For anyone taking selfies or video chatting this should be more than enough. As for the back, you got a double camera setup with a 13 MP + 2 MP camera with flash. The 2 MP camera is set up with a PDAF laser focus to help you take the depth of field and object focus to create more beautiful pictures in portrait mode.
A nice feature they also added is the 120 angles wide-angle mode to help you get better group photos with your friends.
The performance is nowhere near the flagship models but for a budget smartphone, the BLUE VIVO XL4 did surprise us positively. Packing a MediaTek Helio P22 processor with 2.0GHz Octa corer we noticed no lagging or freezing when running basic games or even something more robust like office or Minecraft on the phone. Backing up this processing power you got a 3GB RAM that seems to be more than sufficient for the phone, though we would have liked to see at least 4G to ensure that we don’t hit any bottlenecks in the future.
Internally the phone only comes with 32GB but you can upgrade it up to 128 GB with a MicroSD. This comes handy if you are into taking a lot of videos or high-quality photos since those usually take up space quickly.
The VIVO XL4 comes with a dual sim meaning you can benefit from two different plans on data and voice. This helps to ensure you always get better rates and that you get the best coverage.
As for the operating system the phone runs the latest Android 8.1 Oreo so there shouldn’t be any hiccups running the latest apps and games. The phone also doesn’t come up with a lot of bloatware and the few apps that do come with it can be deleted.
Price History for BLU VIVO XL4 – 6.2” HD Display Smartphone, 32GB+3GB RAM –Black
The BLU VIVO XL4 is not a flagship model, but for the price of a budget phone with great front and back camera, 4000 mAh battery and smooth user experience, it makes it hard to miss it. It even challenges the, a bit pricier, Huawei Mate SE in the budget smartphone category
