As you could guessed the AmazoBasics 3-Outlet Surge Protector is as simple as it gets on its design. Top part has the two USB power outputs with the red LED to display when the surge protection is on and the bottom has three extra outlets for your devices.
Thanks to its design the AmazonBasics 3-Outlet is easy to attach and remove from the wall outlet or other outlets you might want to attach it and for this we give a plus, since we have seen our fair share of hard to remove outlets.
One thing a lot of the users haven’t noticed or cared to find out is that the two USB ports actually are quite different from each other. The one with two lightning bolts is a 2.4 A USB port that lets you charge your iPhone / Android smartphones or tablet device like iPad faster. The USB port with just one lightning bolt on the front is a 1 A USB port. This is important to notice because if you don’t know how many amps your device can take while charging you might end up breaking your device while loading it.
As for the surge protection, the AmazonBasics 3-Outlet has a 900 joules surge protection. It’s not the best, but more than enough for basic users to protect them from AC power surges. Unfortunately, you can’t reset the surge protector so when it’s done, it’s done for good and you need to buy a new surge protected outlet. Though I will happily let a ten dollar surge protected outlet die any day before I let my thousands of dollars worth of electronics take the hit.
The AmazonBasics 3-Outlet is cETlus safety listed which a nice feature. The Its LED protection indicator lights up when connected to an outlet, letting you know easily when the tap is in use and protected.
