Design and build

Lenovo Yoga 920 is a beautiful laptop, to be honest. Its all around well made and doesn’t have anything that pops out too much out of its design. The thing that you notice almost immediately is the Lenovo watch hand hinges that are stiff and well made. They give it a nice stiff feel and they are what gives the Lenovo Yoga 920 the ability to turn the touchscreen all the way around.

The corners of the laptop are a bit sharp though. You don’t notice it on the laptop use, but when you turn the screen around and go the “tablet” use they tend to feel a bit too sharp and bad in your hand. Though there are some neat things Lenovo has done with the tablet mode but more about that later.

Available colors are bronze, copper, and platinum, though there are some limited edition colors available.

Dimensions of the Lenovo Yoga 920 are 12.7 x 8.8 x 0.5 inches ( or ~32.25 x 22.35 x 1.27 cm) and it weighs around 3.02 lbs ( ~1.37 kg).

3

Screen

The screen is available in different setups including a 4K, 13.9″ UHD touchscreen with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 which is nice though costs a bit more than its counterpart which comes with a basic 13.9″ FHD touchscreen and a 1980 x 1080 resolution.

Considering this if your not an artist or a fan of 4K movies and videos you can save few bucks by going for the FHD instead of the higher end UHD screen.

4

Battery

Lenovo promises a 12-hour battery usage for the Yoga 920. We were happily surprised by our test because we managed to get around 9 hours of usage with full screen brightness. Considering this, an average user should be able to get 12-hours easily or even more in some cases.

5

Performance

As a top end laptop, the Lenovo Yoga 920 comes backed with an 8Gen i7-8550 which allows you to get more out of the processor thanks to its better multitasking capabilities, but this really depends if the programs you’re using support it.

8G of RAM is enough for most daily users so you shouldn’t be running out of memory in most cases, though the 256G SSD did leave us wanting a bit more hard drive space.

One thing we must mention is that the Yoga 920 doesn’t have an external GPU meaning you will need to get by with the Intel UHD Graphics 620. Though if you want to boost up your graphics, the Yoga 920 does support an external GPU so not all hope is lost. If you want to get more into gaming we recommend checking out the Acer Predator Helios 300 we review earlier.

6

Ports

Lenovo Yoga comes packed with 2 Thunderbolt USB Type-C ports, 1 USB 3.0 port, Wireless-AC, built-in HD webcam with 4 microphones letting you use the Microsoft Cortana from up to ~13 feet (4 meters) and microphone/headphone combo jack.

It also has a built-in fingerprint scanner letting you access the PC with a touch. A nice little feature you don’t see in many laptops these days.

The Yoga 920 doesn’t include a DVD/CD drive so if you want to watch DVD’s or listen to a music from a CD you will be needing an external drive for this job.

7

Touchpad

The touchpad is tactile and does its job but personally, I would recommend a good average mouse like the VicTsing MM057.

8

Tablet mode

What makes the Lenovo Yoga 920 a 2-in-1 laptop is the fully turnable touch screen. This, of course, leaves the keyboard on the bottom of the laptop and you must be wondering doesn’t this mean you will be pressing them all the time making the use of the tablet mode impossible? Well, thankfully Lenovo has made a system that when you turn the screen around for the tablet mode it actually turns the keyboard off meaning you can use it safely as a tablet and don’t need to worry about any miss presses.

Overall the tablet mode is well made and works as intended in every way.

Lenovo Yoga 920

Yoga 920 also comes with a separate pen that has almost the same quality as of those of Microsoft Surface. The only thing that really bothered us when we tested the device is that if you want to attach it to the laptop you need to use a separate plastic penholder that attaches itself to one of the USBs meaning you can’t use that USB unless you take it off. Also, the holder feels a bit cheaply made, which is kind of a disappointment considering how high-quality everything else feels.

9

Speakers

The speakers aren’t the strong point of Yoga 920 though you manage with them and they work as well as you could expect from small laptop speakers. The downside is that when you turn the laptop into the tablet mode the sound gets a bit muffled, especially if you turn the screen all the way around.

Conclusion

Lenovo Yoga 920 comes packed with great features. It’s small size, touchscreen, and great performance really pack everything you might need for college or work. Though it’s not the best laptop for gaming unless you own a separate GPU that you can connect through the Thunderbolt connectors, it still does its job fairly well in basic gaming and usage. The only truly big downside is a bit too high of a price for most consumers. If the priceĀ is a bit too high for your budget, consider checking out the Acer Chromebook.
