Razer Phone 2 review – Best gaming phone

Everyone was surprised when Razer announced that they would be stepping into the mobile gaming market with their own ...

8.9

Who would have thought a few years back that Razer will get into mobile gaming too? Well, they have and with their second model the Razer Phone 2 they have brought the heavy guns to the online mobile game show.

The Razer Phone 2 is equipped with an awesome 120 Hz ultra motion QHD display which at the moment is still the fastest mobile gaming display available. They also decided to go with the 4000 mAh battery making sure you won’t run out of power any time soon.

The one downside though is that they decided to go with more sharp edges than their competitors making the phone a bit uncomfortable to hold for a long time in landscape mode when playing. They are also packing a bit less internal memory than their competitors which is kind of a bummer when we consider the price tag on this mobile gaming phone. Though the 64 GB internal storage is easily overcome with the possibility to upgrade it up to 2TB.

We also need to point out that the Razer phone has amazing speakers for a smartphone, so if you love watching movies or music videos then we wholeheartedly recommend this phone.

Asus ROG Phone

Asus ROG gaming smartphone

Pros and Cons
PROS:

  • 8 GB of RAM
  • A lot of different mods
  • A lot of accessories for gaming
  • AirTriggers
  • 90 Hz screen refresh rate

CONS:

  • Some phone parts might be lacking
  • Price

You usually don’t think phones first when thinking about Asus but they have brought out the Asus ROG Phone. The phone is packed with a 4000mAh battery, a 6-inch screen and an overclocked Snapdragon 845 to ensure speed. What it might lack in actual “phone” parts in some cases, it comes up with other features. When faced on its side the top left and right corner work as touch sensitive buttons or as Asus calls them AirTriggers.

Asus has also made some cool accessories for the phone including a pair of controller halves you can attach on each side of the phone that also have a small fan to reduce the heat the phone gives under heavy gaming. Some might notice it resembles the Nintendo Switch in a way. Top of these controllers Asus has made a clamshell case with a bonus screen for the phone to really up your gaming if you are into that kind of accessories.

Huawei Honor 8X

Huawei Honor 8X

Pros and Cons
PROS:

  • Price
  • GPU Turbo mode
  • Great display for the price

CONS:

  • Not as powerful as the competitors
  • CPU could be better

The Huawei Honor 8X is not trying to fight in the same category as the more expensive phones but for a (~200 $ when reviewed) budget mobile gaming phone this is one of the best you can get.

It has a nearly borderless design with a notch on top of the screen. The screen is a 6.5-inch 1080×2340 pixel screen which is more than adequate for mobile gaming. Its also packing a 64 GB of internal storage and a 4 GB of RAM that should let you play most games without too much of a hassle or freezing. You can upgrade the memory to up to 400 GB.

A nice little feature Huawei has taken in consideration is the “Turbo mode” for their GPU. It ensures that it can keep up with its competitors by turning down services and programs the phone doesn’t need and this way giving it more power to focus on the task at hand meaning, that you can enjoy the even smoother gaming experience.

Honor View 20

Honor View 20

Pros and Cons
PROS:

  • Big battery
  • Very powerful CPU
  • Very good front and back camera
  • The camera is hidden under the screen giving more screen size

CONS:

  • Slightly lower resolution than the competitors
  • Attracts fingerprints
  • No SD card slot

The Honor View 20 is a beautiful phone, but don’t let this fool you. It’s also carrying a lot of features many gamers will like. It has a 6.4-inch screen with almost no wastes screen size on the bezel or a top notch. Even the front camera is hidden behind the screen which you can only notice by looking at the top left corner where the small camera hole is. The screen can handle 1080p+ which means it might not be quite as good as it’s competitors, but it still gives a good clear image on any game or movie you might watch on it. It can also run demanding games like Fornite at 60 FPS making it one of the few ones that actually can.

Honor View 20 does back a whopping 128 GB or 256 GB of space for your games and other media, depending on what you choose but the drawback is that you don’t have a slot for SD Card, meaning you won’t be able to upgrade it. The front and back camera, on the other hand, are astonishing with the rear camera being a 48 MP meaning you can grab some awesome photos and videos. Your selfies will also be high quality since Huawei didn’t forget the front camera and actually managed to put a 25 MP camera on the front.
